INTRODUCTION TO COMMANDMAP
Maptel has been awarded a major R&D contract with AusIndustry for the Development of real time wireless handheld devices and systems for Counter Terrorism and Emergency.
Management. Security is a major issue for governments around the world in the context of the ongoing threat of terrorism. Allied to this is the ever present threat from, and the response to, natural disasters. Security and emergency incidents require the rapid provision of masses of data, to and from a wide range of personnel, working with a large number of different services (fire, ambulance, emergency services, police etc).
This project will develop spatial information and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) which are an essential part of the management of incidents and will be developed especially for Australian security and emergency management. The project will develop systems for security and emergency personnel which can be accessed by handheld devices in real time to manage terrorist and emergency incidents. The project is designed to build on maptel's highly successful ArcPad technology which is distributed worldwide by ESRI. This arcmobile system will allow spatial mapping by one or many users at a scene. The system will allow the transfer of data, video and voice via GPRS and CDMA1X, by multiple users and multiple services, to an operations centre for the analysis and relay of instructions.
